SWF is a file format that can contain audio, video, and vector-based animations.

Adobe Flash

The SWF format is currently developed by Adobe in conjunction with the Adobe Flash Player and Flash Media Server.

Gnash Support

The Gnash Flash Player has very complete support for versions of SWF up to SWF7, however many SWF8 and SWF9 movies are currently playing as well.
