BackLash
From Gnash Project Wiki
BackLash is not Adobe/Macromedia Flash(tm)
BackLash - A proposal for an open media coding standard
- That is Backwards-compatible with Adobe Macromedia Flash(tm).
- Is well-documented.
- Is built upon using existing open standards for writing scripts (i.e ecma-script and XML).
- Is not obfuscated.
- Is NOT Flash, just happens to be compatible with previous versions!
- Is extendible.
- Free as in Freedom.
- Can be JIT-compiled if you write a JIT-compiler.
Of course gnash will be used for the reference implementation. By using gnash virtual machine for Flash, BackLash will guarantee backward compatibility, and at the same time be able to use the open standard.
